Does the floor/ceiling unit require a condensate pump?
A condensate pump is NOT included with this unit and is not built-in. This unit requires a gravity drain — meaning the condensate water needs to drain downhill from the unit to a drain or outside. If you cannot achieve a gravity drain (e.g., installing on a ceiling in the middle of a room), you will need to purchase a separate external condensate pump.
Can it actually be mounted on the floor like a floor console?
This is a floor-ceiling (also called a "high wall" or "universal") unit — it can be installed near the ceiling or near the floor. Floor mounting is not the same as a mini floor console, which sits on the floor standing upright. For a floor-standing console style, see C&H's dedicated floor console models.
Does this system qualify for energy rebates?
Yes. This system is Energy Star certified at 18.5 SEER2, which meets the efficiency thresholds for many federal and state energy rebate programs. What Nobody Tells You Before You BuyβΎ
If you are looking for mini splits, most sellers cover the basics: an outdoor compressor connected to indoor units via small refrigerant lines, high energy efficiency without duct loss, and separate room temperatures — plus the simple setup needing just a small 3-inch wall opening. All true, but there are critical technical details and long-term ownership realities almost nobody tells you before you buy.
Beyond washing your mesh air filters every few weeks, mini splits need a deep chemical cleaning of the internal blower wheel and evaporator coil every 1–2 years. Because the heads recirculate the air in your living space, neglected moisture can breed toxic black mold inside the barrel fan. And while most guides cover summer condensation draining from the indoor head, heat pumps reverse in winter: during freezing weather the outdoor unit sheds gallons of water in defrost cycles — without a base pan heater or proper drainage that runoff freezes solid, destroying fan blades and icing the compressor base.
