I had a local HVAC professional handle the installation, and while it was a full day's work connecting the linesets for all three heads, the process was straightforward for them. The wall-mounted indoor units are surprisingly sleek and blend right into the rooms. The three separate handheld remotes make controlling each zone independently a breeze. My goal was to get reliable, zoned heating and cooling for three key areas of my house—the living room, a master bedroom, and a home office—without the huge expense and complexity of running new ductwork. The 36,000 BTU, three-zone setup was perfect, and the 21 SEER rating promised serious energy savings over my old central AC unit. The system is remarkably quiet. The indoor heads run on a "Quiet Mode" that is barely audible—I often forget they are on. The outdoor condenser is also very quiet (listed at 59 dB(A)), which is a huge plus since it's mounted outside my office window.

I have 3 Westinghouse (Fujitsu China plant) units 24 24 and a 12 all single zone 17 6 seer. For 4 years. My voltage at my home is 242-244v I was having endless problems on all 3 until we put all three on buck boost voltage converters and got the voltage down to 220v steady Haven't had a problem since These units claim 196-253v range but they are sensitive to the high end of that range. If you are reading this somewhere with problems like me, have your electrician put in buck boost converters (or watch the hvac YouTube channel and install them yourself like me, just use voltmeter to test voltage coming off of them) Cheers all

What Nobody Tells You Before You Buy

If you are looking for mini splits, most sellers cover the basics: an outdoor compressor connected to indoor units via small refrigerant lines, high energy efficiency without duct loss, and separate room temperatures — plus the simple setup needing just a small 3-inch wall opening. All true, but there are critical technical details and long-term ownership realities almost nobody tells you before you buy.

Beyond washing your mesh air filters every few weeks, mini splits need a deep chemical cleaning of the internal blower wheel and evaporator coil every 1–2 years. Because the heads recirculate the air in your living space, neglected moisture can breed toxic black mold inside the barrel fan. And while most guides cover summer condensation draining from the indoor head, heat pumps reverse in winter: during freezing weather the outdoor unit sheds gallons of water in defrost cycles — without a base pan heater or proper drainage that runoff freezes solid, destroying fan blades and icing the compressor base.

Finally, budget for electrical and warranty requirements upfront. A multi-zone system frequently requires upgrading your home's main electrical panel — often from 100-amp to 200-amp service — plus dedicated 208/230V double-pole breakers. Most importantly, beware of online DIY claims: almost every major manufacturer explicitly voids your multi-year parts and compressor warranty unless a licensed HVAC technician performs the final nitrogen pressure test, line evacuation, and refrigerant commissioning.
